The Forge
A supported cohort for middle & high school students building real web development skills
What It Is
The Forge is a structured, mentor-supported cohort for middle and high school students working through a full-stack web development curriculum. Think of it as a study group crossed with a support network: you're doing real, substantive work — building toward full-stack web development fluency — but you're not doing it alone.
The curriculum is genuinely hard. It's self-directed, text-heavy, and demands that you struggle through problems rather than just follow along. That's by design — it's how real, deep mastery and understanding get built — but it's also where a lot of people quit without support. The Forge adds the structure, accountability, and direct mentorship that keeps students moving.
How It Works
The Curriculum
Students work through a hand-crafted full-stack web development curriculum, with additional exercises, supplementary material, and checkpoints to reinforce key concepts and catch gaps before they compound.
The goal is full-stack web development fluency - from Ruby fundamentals through building and deploying full applications.
Regular Sessions
The cohort meets regularly - twice a week for the summer - for working sessions where students make progress on the curriculum alongside each other. These aren't lectures: we're checking in, you're working, asking questions, seeing what problems other people are wrestling with, and working together with your mentors to get unstuck.
Cohort Structure
Students move through the curriculum together. You're not racing each other, but you're not completely on your own schedule either. Cohort pacing keeps everyone close enough to help each other and learn from each other's struggles.
Membership Included
Active Forge participants get a free membership to Bedrock for the duration of the program, which means you have access to all of our other resources, tools, and open lab sessions while you're in the Forge.
